Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA Travel, Photos Information and News
Carmel by the Sea is a Central California Coast tourist destination recognized for its beaches, Monterey pine trees, spectacular golf courses, shopping, and artist community. We've written many news stories about the art galleries in town, and figured out that Carmel, like its Orange County counter-part Laguna Beach, began as an artist colony, transitioned through time, and today has grown into a world class art destination. There are more galleries per capita in Carmel than nearly any city in California (Laguna Beach excluded).
Dog-friendly, there are a handful of hotels that welcome you and your pets, and the dogs will usually find a dish water outside the door of many downtown stores.
The beaches are wind-swept, smooth sand beaches with a few tucked away coves, and you'll often find surfers out in the waves getting great rides. Part of the Monterey Bay, this region is the nation's largest marine sanctuary and a fitting place for the Monterey Bay Aquarium, a world class facility open to the public in neighboring city of Monterey.
Another highlight to any visit is the 17 Mile Drive, a scenic coastal meandering road with many spots to stop and take pictures. A fee is charged to enter, but don't hesitate to check it out for some of the most amazing beaches that have gained fame for the sport of golf such as Pebble Beach Golf Links.
What to do in Carmel by the Sea: Visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Beaches, Golf, 17 Mile Drive, Shops, Dining and Chateau Julien Winery.
Where to stay in Carmel: We love Carmel Valley Ranch out in the hills, but you might also want to stay near the ocean and downtown at places such as La Playa Hotel.
